The DAR is a 118-year-old non-profit, non-political, world-wide service organization devoted to historic preservation, education, and patriotic endeavor. Each member is a lineal descendant of a patriot who gave aid or served as a soldier in the Revolutionary War. The National Society DAR has facts about DAR and information about joining DAR. Further information about DAR is available at: National Society DAR and Missouri State Society DAR

The Alexander Doniphan Chapter meets monthly. A program reflecting the DAR ideals of patriotism, education, and historical preservation is given at each meeting as well as women's issues and conservation. Among our interesting programs have been: "World War II Prison Camps in Missouri" by Jim Beckner"; "Meet Mr. Franklin" by Paul Forbes; "George Washington--Patriot, Soldier, Statesman" by Dr. Chris Sizemore; "Urban Tree Benefits" by Charles Conner, Urban Forester, Missouri Department of Conservation; and "Union Station Massacre" by Robert Unger, Reporter, Journalist, Pulitzer Prize Winner.

Our chapter has sponsored Junior American Citizen Clubs in the elementary schools of Liberty, Missouri, essay contests on historical subjects for elementary and junior high school students, and the Good Citizen Award to seniors in high schools. Members volunteer and are on the Board of the Clay County Archives. Our chapter continues to observe Flag Day, Constitution Week, and celebrates Veteran's Day and George Washington's birthday in conjunction with the local chapters of the Sons of the American Revolution. Please contact us if you are interested in joining DAR and would like to attend one of our meetings. We will be happy to assist you research your Patriot.
