Elizabeth Carey Chapter History

The Elizabeth Carey Chapter NSDAR was organized on Flag Day 1913. The chapter name was chosen to honor the patriot ancestor of Organizing Regent, Myra Moorman Gilbert (Mrs. C.E.). Elizabeth Carey was the wife of Benjamin Watkins, a member of the Virginia House of Burgesses from 1771 to 1774 and a delegate to the Convention of 1776. The patriot Watkins, active in the Revolution, was also the first clerk of Chesterfield County, Virginia. His wife, in staunchly supporting her husband, became involved as a true Daughter of the American Revolution.

We honor our charter members who laid the foundation for the active chapter we enjoy today.
