Elizabeth Carey Chapter Daughters and HODARS enjoyed a trip to historic Balltown Cemetery which is
being restored by retired naval officer Robert Seater. He adopted the cemetery as a multi-year project and completely renovated
the Civil War Grand Army of the Republic burial plot. The chapter gave a DAR Outstanding Community Service Medal to him for his
service in restoring this historic cemetery.
Our chapter meetings are usually held on the second Tuesday of the month.
Please contact us
if you are interested in joining the DAR and would like to attend one of our meetings. Throughout the year, programs
reflecting the DAR ideals of patriotism, education, and historical preservation are enjoyed by Daughters and guests.
Some of our interesting programs have been: "Vernon County History and Genealogy"; "Feisty First Ladies"; "Voices
from the Quilts"; "Martha Washington"; and "Nevada Air Force ROTC." We often have a field trip in the fall and spring
and have recently enjoyed visiting Halley's Bluff, the Nathan Boone homestead, historic Balltown Cemetery, and the
Bushwhacker Museum. Guests are welcome. We will be happy to assist you in proving your lineage to your
Revolutionary War patriot.
