Activities
The Olde Towne Fenton Chapter NSDAR was organized on December 2, 2000, with
17 charter members and in only eleven years has grown to a membership of almost 90 with several prospective members
in process. The chapter strives to become an integral part of the
South-Southwest St. Louis County area including the City of Fenton, as
well as northern Jefferson County. Community activities have included
participation in the Fenton Days Parade, receptions for area Veterans, and
distribution of Constitution Week posters and bookmarks to area schools
and libraries. Periodically, the chapter holds genealogy workshops and
has also participated in the Jefferson County Family History Fair. The
chapter has also awarded Community Service Awards to deserving citizens
of the area. A Historic Preservation Recognition Award was recently
presented to the Missouri Civil War Museum. The Olde Towne Fenton
Chapter supports local schools by sponsoring a DAR Good Citizen
every year, holding American History Essay contests, and giving college
scholarship awards to deserving area High School seniors. The chapter
supports area Veterans, Fischer House, the Missouri Veterans Home,
provides clothing donations for Dress for Success, Books for Y Literacy
annual book sale, and collects donations for the DAR schools.
Annually, the chapter adopts an active duty soldier and sends care
packages throughout the year. Another chapter project nearing
completion is the publication of a book about Fenton area cemeteries,
including photos of all the tombstones. Members have marked a
Revolutionary soldier's grave, and are currently working on documenting
and marking the grave of Samuel Kennerly. The chapter sponsored the
organization of the Samuel Kennerly Society of the Children of the
American Revolution.
The members of the Olde Towne Fenton Chapter are active and
enthusiastic. They participate in the St. Louis area DAR events and are
well represented at the annual Mideast District meeting, Missouri State
Conference, and at NSSDAR Continental Congress.
We have decorated Christmas trees and also attended the annual Flag Day
Picnic at state DAR headquarters, Roslyn Heights in Boonville,
Missouri. Along with four other DAR chapters, we hold an annual joint
Flag Day Luncheon in June of each year. Shown in the picture, Olde Towne Fenton Chapter members participated in the President's Day
wreath laying ceremony at Lafayette Park, St. Louis.
The chapter has accomplished
much in eleven short years and is committed to growing in membership, expanding service to the Fenton
area community, and fulfilling to the best of our abilities the NSDAR objectives of promoting patriotism, historic
preservation, and securing America's future through support of education.
