At the request of President Thomas
Jefferson, Meriwether Lewis and William Clark traveled West by river to
the Pacific Ocean. The Missouri River was the route taken from St.
Louis. Their journey took them past the towns of Boonville, New Franklin,
Armstrong and Colunbia. Historians determined a site where the expedition
had camped. The marker is a joint effort of the Hannah Cole Chapter,
Columbian Chapter, Howard County Chapter and Armstrong Chapter of the
Daughters of the American Revolution. It is located on Highway 87
about a mile north of Boonville.

Entertainment the way Thomas
Jefferson liked it! Good food, good service, interesting visitors and
happy conversation. Thomas Jefferson (portrayed by Patrick Lee) regaled
the crowd with his thoughts on government, marriage, finance and living.
Period costumes and recipes from Thomas Jefferson's cookbook added elegance to
the evening.

 The
Hannah Cole Memorial is located next to the Hannah Cole Roadside Park,
about 12 miles south of Boonville
