Welcome to our chapter website! We belong to the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR), a women's service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving our nation's history, and supporting educational endeavors. The Louisiana Purchase Chapter was one of the earliest chapters organized in the Missouri State Society DAR on October 7, 1916, in DeSoto, Missouri. The chapter name "perpetuates the memory of the event which doubled the area of the United States and extended the boundaries of the young republic beyond the Mississippi." Mrs. John Reppy was our founding Chapter Regent. Today our Regent is Debra Dollar. We have 54 members who are active in our community. Each year we present DAR Good Citizens awards to senior class students selected from each of Jefferson County's high schools for demonstrating the qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism in their home, school and community. We sponsor genealogical workshops, present flags to various youth organizations and schools, participate in local parades, support our veterans' organizations and DAR schools through donations. The Louisiana Purchase Chapter was instrumental in the recent "Nickels for Jefferson" campaign to raise funds for a portrait to be painted of Thomas Jefferson for the new Jefferson County Administration Building Any woman, age 18 or older, who can prove lineal decent from a patriot of the American Revolution is eligible for membership. Many of our members are avid genealogists and we have many resources to help you research your roots. Our chapter meets monthly, typically on the second Saturday in local historical and educational sites, to conduct business and enjoy programs of educational, patriotic, or historical interest. Prospective members and interested visitors are welcome. Contact our chapter for information on meeting times and locations, or if you would like more information on becoming a member. |
