The Daughters of the American Revolution, or DAR, honors and preserves the legacy of all patriot ancestors who served in the military, held government office or supported the Revolution in a number of ways from 1774 to 1783.
Military service includes that in the Continental Army or Navy, State Navy, militias or as privateers. The DAR even recognizes military service by foreign nationals who participated in the American war theater.
Patriots who held government office under the authority of Provisional or new State governments as county, town or state officials are recognized for their civil service. But, patriotic service encompasses much more, from providing financial, medical and ministerial aid to furnishing supplies to signing petitions, Oaths of Fidelity and Allegiance to participating in the Boston Tea Party, and more.
. As a member of DAR, through participation in the various programs and activities, you can continue this legacy by actively supporting historic preservation, promotion of education, and patriotic endeavors. Do you have a American Revolutionary patriot in your family tree?
