Work of the Society |
|
PATRIOTISM
Support of Military: DAR supports the men and women of the United States Military through programs such as DAR Project Patriot, which supports the wounded military personnel at the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Landstuhl, Germany.
Service to Veterans: DAR members provide assistance to veterans in both VA hospitals and non-VA facilities.
Flag: DAR promotes the proper display of the Flag of the United States of America and donates flags to schools and community organizations. A booklet, “Flag Code of the United States of America,” is published by DAR and distributed free to schools and organizations.
Constitution Week: DAR sponsors special programs and public service announcements during the week of September 17-23 to help inform and educate the public about our Constitution.
Awards: DAR presents awards for Good Citizenship, Community Service, Conservation, Historical Preservation, and for citizens’ outstanding contributions to the nation.
EDUCATION
DAR Schools: DAR supports schools for the underprivileged.
Scholarships: DAR awards a variety of scholarships to high school and college students.
American Indians: DAR awards scholarships to Native American children, and supports Indian schools.
Literacy: Members volunteer service in the promotion of literacy among adults and children.
Youth Programs: DAR promotes American history education through children’s essay contests, summer camps, and museum programs.
HISTORIC PRESERVATION
DAR members preserve local landmarks and historic structures. Members also locate, restore, and mark patriot gravesites and headstones throughout the United States.
Locally, DAR maintains historic Cold Water Cemetery in Florissant, Missouri.
GENEALOGY
DAR provides help with genealogy, and conducts genealogical workshops. The DAR library is one of the world’s premier genealogical research centers. |
