Meeting notes: Farmington Mayor Jeannie Roberts presented a resolution in honor of the 121st anniversary of the U.S. Constitution to Sarah Barton Murphy Chapter. Member Gerri Peek presented the program on An Army Wife in Pakistan. Her husband is Retired Colonel Milton Peek and was once stationed in Pakistan.

Meeting notes: The Sarah Barton Murphy Chapter, NSDAR, held its December meeting on December 6, 2008. Mr. Louis Miller was recognized as Veteran of the Month. Claudette Roper presented a program on Christmas traditions in Germany.

January 2009
Meeting notes: Sarah Barton Murphy Chapter's new year was off to a good beginning. In January the chapter's chaplain, Carol Farr, gave a presentation about our activities during Constitution Week. The Veteran of the month was Raymond Callanan, who attended the meeting with Mrs. Callanan. Also, Chaplain Carol Farr inducted new member Jan Kemp.
February 2009
Meeting notes: Sarah Barton Murphy Chapter had a very active February meeting. Student Gerritt Hargiss was presented with the Good Citizens Award for his high school. Becky Landrum was given the Community Service Award for the many things she has done for the Farmington community. Steven Kaba, Jr. received the Veteran of the Month Award - he served in the Normandy Invasion at Omaha Beach. Also, new members Anita Lyon and Karen Kleinberg were installed, and Jon Cozean gave a presentation about Abraham Lincoln at various stages of his life.

Meeting notes: Sarah Barton Murphy Chapter's March meeting featured guest Steve Kaba, Jr., who was given a Certificate of Appreciation for his service to his country and who gave a twenty-five donation to the chapter. Also, Lisa Sumpter, granddaughter of Corresponding Secretary Marlyn Mauk and niece of member Lana Wampler, gave a presentation on Money Matters for Women. Lisa is an agent for Conservative Financial Services. Inc.

Meeting notes: In May Sarah Barton Murphy Chapter, NSDAR, invited World War II veteran Lorin Gregory to speak to the group. He was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation.

September 2009
Meeting notes: Vice-Regent Pat Colyer presented a Certificate of Appreciation
to World War II veteran Harry Powell. Mr. Powell served in the U.S. Army, Second Infantry
Division, participating in five major battles, including the Battle of the Bulge.
Past Regent Shirley Brown reported on the DAR’s 118th Continental Congress in Washington, D.C.
The theme was the Spirit of Hospitality.
November 2009
Meeting notes: A presentation of veterans’ medals, coins, and certificates
of appreciation to World War II, Korea, and Vietnam veterans took place. Many of the veterans attended
with family members. Milton Peek and Alvin Hulsey received awards for service in all three wars.
New member Jennifer Barton-VanMeter was welcomed, and prospective members Kathy Stewart,
Karen Young, Colleen Cruise, Cara Akridge, Charlotte Watson, Marion Williams, Georgia Moore,
and Carla Gardner were voted on and accepted. Welcome ladies!
January 2010
Meeting notes: Vice-Regent Pat Colyer’s father, Robert Palmer O’Neal,
was recognized posthumously as the veteran of the month.
Dennis McIntosh presented a program about the history of the U.S. Constitution and the Bill
of Rights. Fifty-five delegates participated in the drawing up of the Bill of Rights in the
summer of 1787. Mr. McIntosh stated that the Constitution is a living part of our lives.

Meeting notes: The meeting was highlighted by the official visit of State Regent Lemira
Parks and co-hosted by Louisiana Purchase and Captain Henry Whitener Chapters. Becky Kirkpatrick,
State Conference Credentials Chairperson, and Therma Glass, Southeast District Directior
were in attendance, with Virginia Wilson, Regent of Captain Henry Whitener Chapter, and
Debra Dollar, Regent of Louisiana Chapter. Each chapter regent presented State Regent
Parks with a gift and a donation to her state project, honoring Daniel Boone.
Ms.Parks has initiated the placing of markers in the state, honoring Daniel Boone.
They will be placed near Boone’s Crossing, in St. Charles at the trailhead used by
Daniel Boone, at Katy Park in Marthasville, in Matson at the crossing near the original
land granted to Daniel Boone, and at Fort Osage, near trailheads used by Daniel Boone.
Ms. Parks’ mascot for her term is the honeybee. She presented an interesting program
entitled “Honey Bees in American History.” The program included the history of beekeeping
in America. The bees were not native to America but were brought from Europe in the 1600s.
They were valued for their honey, used in cooking, and for their wax, used in candles, and
were an important cash crop.
Another event during the meeting was the recognition of World War II veteran U.S. Marine
Corporal Emmett Wampler, who attended with his wife Anne. Mr. Wampler received training
in San Diego and later was sent to the Marshall Islands. He served as a driver for
Bob Hope, Jack Benny, and Betty Hutton when they entertained the troops. He also served
on Guam and Iwo Jima. The chapter presented Mr. Wampler with an American flag and a
Certificate of Appreciation.
