Wm Boydston Chapter takes an annual day trip to a local site of historic
interest in August. Last year we visited the Madonna of the Trails and the
House in Lexington. We enjoy a luncheon at a tea room or other local restaurant and
shopping to top off our day out.
Chapter Activities
Through community service, our chapter follows the National Society DAR goals:
Patriotism:
For our veterans, we provide cookies, magazines, games, and toiletries which are donated in celebration of National Defense Month and taken to our local Veterans Hospital, along with cards for those who are hospitalized.
We have contributed a total of thirty-three names for the book on display at the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.
We celebrate Constitution Week, Flag Day, and Memorial Day, and create patriotic window displays for the community. We celebrate George Washington's birthday in conjunction with the local chapters of the Sons of the American Revolution
Education:
We present the DAR Good Citizens award, NSDAR Citizenship and Patriot Awards in the North Kansas City School District.
We conduct essay and poster contests and have had several of our local entries recognized at the State and National level.
We have sponsored several DAR Scholarship winners.
Historic Preservation:
We have planted trees throughout our community.
We have marked several Patriot graves with plaques, including the grave of William Boydston.
The Chapter has placed a historical marker at the Atkins-Johnson farm house in Gladstone. This Farm is on the National Register of Historical Sites.
