Memorial to William Boydston, Faubion Cemetery

Memorial to William Boydston, Faubion Cemetery, Gladstone, Missouri

On December 1, 1963, a group of twelve women met at the home of Mrs. Carroll Barrett with the purpose of forming a new chapter of DAR in the Gladstone area of Greater Kansas City. When the charter was granted by NSDAR, the number had grown to twenty-two, and today our chapter has sixty members.

Our DAR chapter was named for William Boydston who was born March 24, 1753, in Frederick, Maryland. He was a Revolutionary War soldier who served faithfully on behalf of the American colonies in the states of Virginia and North Carolina. On June 13, 1833, he received Pension Certificate Number 13751 from the United States of America. William Boydston was married to Elizabeth Christian and lived in Montgomery, Virginia. Their son, Nathaniel, married Nancy Faubion and, their daughter, Priscilla married the Rev. Jacob Faubion. Nathaniel and Priscilla and families moved to Missouri first and Nathaniel later went back to Virginia and brought William and Elizabeth west. They lived near St. Joseph, Missouri, which, at that time, was a part of Clay County. After the Platte Purchase, it became part of Buchanan County.

Picture Wm. Boydston Commemoration William Boydston was visiting his family in what is now, Gladstone. He fell ill and died in December of 1838. He was the first person to be buried in Faubion Cemetery, which is located in Gladstone, Missouri, at the corner of N.W. 72nd Street and Kranz Road, just a few blocks northeast of downtown Gladstone. His graved was marked by the William Boydston Chapter NSDAR on March 24, 2002, celebrating the anniversary of his birth. The chapter was assisted by the Missouri Sons of the American Revolution Color Guard and his descendants attended the ceremony.
